In the first case, a simpler design allows you to mount the element yourself and rather quickly. Valves for installation in the supporting part of the structure require the organization of a channel through the entire thickness, which is not always possible without special equipment.
What are the functions of ventilation in an apartment with plastic windows
In rooms with wooden structures, fans could be installed in the exhaust ducts to improve ventilation efficiency. In winter, they didn't even need to be turned on due to the temperature difference.
Installation of plastic windows radically changes the situation. The air in your home can become more toxic over time than outside.
Of the simple solutions, tenants have four:
- regular ventilation;
- installation of electric fans in mines;
- installation of devices for micro-ventilation;
- installation of supply valves;
- installation of compact fans.
A plus of ventilation is the ingress of oxygen into the premises. But in the city it is supplemented by dust, noise, exhaust gases. This means that this method is short-term and ineffective.
Electric fans are suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. They are installed in waste shafts, turned on manually or automatically (when the humidity rises or the air quality decreases). These devices are offered by many manufacturers at various prices.
Micro-ventilation is the depressurization of plastic by installing a device into it that lets air from the street into the premises. In fact, this is the organization of slots and the installation of devices in them, the cost of which depends on the manufacturer and configuration.
The supply valves can be installed in the outer wall, at the junction between the window and the wall, in the profile, under the window board. These are plastic pipes through which the air flow from the street moves. The market offers models with different flow rates, which are regulated manually or automatically. It is best to hire a specialist to calculate the number and location of valves. To increase the efficiency of the supply unit, a fan is needed in the shaft.
Another option is an exhaust fan that blows out the exhaust air stream. It is suitable for the kitchen and can be operated continuously or on demand. The check valve blocks the air flow from the street. Expensive models are equipped with sensors that turn on the fan at a certain level of contamination. For bathrooms and toilets, there are waterproof models for installation in external walls.
How can you solve the ventilation problem in your home?
The easiest option is open windows regularly... However, if you have children, then drafts are unlikely to benefit them. In addition, walking around and opening the window every hour is simply illogical and time consuming. The more economical option is to solve the problem of air exchange in the apartment by installing windows with additional functions. This can be mounting a window (you choose the size yourself), a ventilation valve, a comb.
The latter device is simply necessary not only for micro-ventilation. Fixing the window frame allows you to protect the window from gusts of wind. Someone will say that any object is quite suitable for such a trifle, but believe me, it will not perform a direct function qualitatively. If you supplied the window without this lock, you can easily correct the situation and order it separately. The cheap item will become your reliable assistant.
The traditional window also has its advantages. Cold air does not enter the apartment, but is pre-mixed with the upper warm streams and only then it is evenly distributed over the living space. The downside is itself window cost.
Vent valve
Let us now turn to vent valve... Previously installed windows do not have this device, but now you can order such climate control at the very first stage. And if you have a desire, then these air devices can be built into all window models. This design works autonomously, does not require additional power consumption. The system blocks strong gusts of wind, and at the same time there is a constant exchange of air through the micro-holes. You don't need to open the window, then remember that you need to close it, and if you forgot, then worry during the working day that intruders can get into the room. The self-ventilation system regulates the air flow, eliminates sudden temperature fluctuations, icing in winter, and reduces wear on movable window components.

Vent valve will allow you to permanently free yourself from the open window. It has two components. At the bottom of the frame, a small seal is cut on both sides. Today, the types of the ventilation valve can solve many problems associated with the ventilation of plastic windows and the restoration of air exchange in the room, but it must be remembered that "many" – that's not all.
Natural ventilation due to the installation of ventilation valves on plastic windows is a compensation for a kind of tightness of the room, provided by a modern window structure.
Parameters and composition of forced ventilation
The best option is a split system for the whole apartment on the balcony, in the closet, in the hallway. During installation, it is necessary to take into account the need for maintenance and repair. The structure can be placed in the wall, under the ceiling, on the floor. The air flow from the street is supplied by a collector connected to the premises by air ducts installed in the suspended ceiling. The waste stream is removed from the bathroom, bathroom or kitchen. Since air exchange directly affects the quality of life, scientific research was carried out to determine its optimal parameters, the results of which are reflected in regulatory enactments.
The main document governing the rules for organizing ventilation of residential premises is SP 54.13330.2016 "Residential multi-apartment buildings", updated edition SNiP 31-01-2003.
Rules for calculating the minimum volume of air exchange
The minimum air volume for different types of rooms can be calculated using the data in table 9.1. SP 54.13330.2016.
When calculating, you cannot simply add up the numbers obtained. For living rooms, air exchange is understood as the flow of air from the outside and its outflow into the kitchen, bathroom, etc., and for technical rooms - the inflow from the living rooms and release outside the apartment.
Therefore, it is necessary to separately calculate the required volumes of inflow and exhaust, in order to take as a result the maximum value of these two values.
There is one nuance here. The designer of an apartment building is obliged to calculate the inflow value to calculate the heat balance, and the exhaust value - to calculate the parameters of the ventilation units.
Residents of apartments have the right, at their discretion, to implement ventilation of a lower throughput, which in the overwhelming majority of cases happens.
It is possible to independently determine the volume of air exchange with good accuracy only when using forced ventilation.

With natural air circulation, you must pay attention to the following indicators:
- excess moisture in the air (can be measured with a hygrometer) - expressed in the appearance of fungus on the walls and ceiling, as well as fogging of window panes in winter;
- lack of oxygen or excess carbon dioxide (can be measured with a gas analyzer) - it is expressed in the difficulty of breathing for all people who are in the apartment.
How to ventilate an apartment with plastic windows
Method one: open the window the old fashioned way
You open the sash of the window - fresh air from the street rushes into the room. If you thought about the convenience of airing in advance, then you have equipped at least one sash of each window with a swing-out mechanism.
It is not often possible to ventilate the room through the wide-open window - only on fine summer days. Most often, the sash is slightly opened a little and fixed in the selected position. There are different ways to do this.
The easiest is to install a comb-like limiter. The open sash is fixed in one of four positions.
If you want to leave a very small air gap, you can equip the window with special fittings for slot ventilation (micro ventilation). A special part is installed on the window frame:
Thanks to it, when the window handle is turned about 45 ° up from the "open" position, the sash opens a few millimeters and is fixed in this position, which is very convenient.
And by the way. In winter, for ventilation, it is better to open the window wide for a few minutes than to leave a click. In two or three minutes, through an open window, the room will be well ventilated, but will not have time to cool down.
Everything would be nice and simple, but street noise, dust, poplar fluff and mosquitoes penetrate the room through the open sash. Fortunately, there is a better solution.
Method two: micro-ventilation device in the window frame
This device maintains air exchange between the room and the outside when the window sashes are completely closed. The built-in filter traps dust and insects. The air flow rate is adjustable. You can ventilate the room even in winter, without fear of overcooling the room.

Method three: ventilation is responsible for everything
Since your apartment already has exhaust ventilation, you need to supplement it with supply ventilation.
Properly equipped and properly functioning supply and exhaust ventilation provides ventilation of the apartment without the need to open windows. Of course, the price of such a technical solution is much higher. In addition, general ventilation does not always work as it should.
