How to install a household air conditioner yourself

What is important to know about installing an air conditioner

The split system consists of an external unit installed from the street side and an internal unit, which is installed directly in the room. Electrical and freon communications are laid between the blocks. The connection is carried out by qualified specialists using a special tool in their work.

When installing the indoor unit of a split system, it is important to ensure free air circulation in the room, without any obstacles to the cooled air flow.

The outdoor unit must be protected from various influences that can damage the device: heavy rain, falling icicles or snow avalanches from the roof. The structure is mounted on the outside of the building using high-quality fasteners. It is advisable to install the device on the shady side, under a window with an opening sash, which will provide convenience for maintenance.

There are also floor-standing and window-type monoblock air conditioners. The design is extremely simple, all working components are immersed in one housing.

It is forbidden to mount external air conditioner units on glazed balconies that prevent heat from escaping, as well as close to the ground, next to trees and gas utilities.

When installing the air conditioner, be sure to take into account the condensate drainage. Do not allow water to hit the wall. The installed sewerage system, which can also be included in the equipment installation project, will allow to exclude such wetting.

Installation of household air conditioners

The first stage is the installation of the outdoor unit. We mount the brackets on the facade, making sure of their strength. If there is external insulation, you need to make sure that the structure is not attached to the materials, but directly to the wall. Please note that the outdoor unit should be located at some distance from the wall (at least 10-12 cm). This is due to the need to blow off the compressor - if there is not enough space on one side, this will provoke overheating of the unit.

It is better to carry out work at height with insurance. The equipment should not be placed directly under the window: water should flow silently along the wall, and not fall drops on the heads of passers-by and the ebb tides of window openings located on the floors below. We drill holes in the outer wall, which are necessary for laying the outlets. The diameter of the holes depends on the diameters of the selected moisture extraction pipes. When the holes are made, it is necessary to overlay them with a special waterproofing material, and after that it is already possible to lay communications to the external block.

The second stage is the installation of the indoor unit. This work takes more time, since the electrical wiring and the highway have to be laid. Do not connect air conditioners to conventional multi-piece sockets. This is a powerful equipment, so it is worth laying a separate line from the shield, installing an automatic machine and an RCD. The presence of fuses is necessary to protect the cables from overheating, to ensure fire safety.

Before installing the indoor unit, it is necessary to lay a line from the installation site to the outdoor unit. Of course, it is better to drown this line in the wall, but surface-mounted options are also possible using a plastic box. When the trunk is laid, you can attach the indoor unit to the wall. Fasteners should be with a safety margin of 30-50%, you should make sure that the fasteners are reliable.

The third stage is vacuum.It involves removing air and moisture from the line when connecting the indoor and outdoor units. For this, special equipment is used, a pressure gauge, and you need to make sure that all moisture is removed before connecting the air conditioner to the network. Typically, it takes 40 to 60 minutes to evacuate. After that, you can insert the plug into the socket and check the performance of the climatic equipment. It should be borne in mind that during the operation of the indoor unit there should be no extraneous noise, vibration, tapping, as well as draft and foreign odors. Phenomena of this kind can speak of a breakdown of the equipment itself or of an illiterate installation of the climate system.

The fourth stage is filling with freon. The valves, through which the refrigerant is introduced, are located in the outdoor unit. New equipment almost always comes to the customer filled up, so this work should not be carried out in all cases.

Requirements for the location of the air conditioner

The location of the air conditioner affects the efficiency and durability of the air conditioner. There are some requirements for the installation of split equipment, which must be taken into account during installation work.

Basic installation rules:

  1. There must be at least 15 cm of void space between the ceiling and the indoor unit.
  2. There must be a distance of at least 10 cm between the nearest vertical surface.
  3. The indoor unit must not be installed under shelves, cabinets and other vertical surfaces, or above appliances that generate heat.
  4. The indoor unit of the split system must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
  5. Strong bending of the freon tubes connecting the external and internal unit is not allowed.

Helpful hints:

  1. It is advisable to find a convenient place for installing the air conditioner so that it is as accessible as possible for maintenance.
  2. Try not to create a long route of communication systems between the indoor and outdoor unit, which will require refueling with freon.
  3. It is better to install the air conditioner at the stage of repair work.
  4. It is undesirable to install a cooling device opposite the entrance to the room.

Air conditioner installation
When installing an air conditioner, it is necessary to take into account the type and installation options, as well as use typical schemes or develop individual ones, modified for the layout of the building. Our company KONDER 77 takes all these rules into account and works with any models of climate technology. The equipment we offer is pre-tested and only then installed by the masters. Then our employee advises the client on the rules for operating the device, provides a warranty from the company.

It is better to entrust the work of installing the air conditioner to professionals, because thereby you will save yourself from:

  • Incorrect choice of installation location. Otherwise, split-system users will constantly have a stuffy nose or symptoms of sore throat more often.
  • Lack of warranty service. If the installation is not correct, there will be no one to complain about and the equipment will have to be repaired for money.
  • Dangers when installing the air conditioner at a height.

Where is the best place to install an air conditioner in an apartment

It is very important to find the right place to install the air conditioner in the living space. It should create a pleasant coolness for residents, without causing hypothermia of the body with the development of colds. Consider different options for installing a split system in apartments.

One room apartment

In a 1-room apartment, you can install a multi-system with two indoor units and one outdoor unit, or several air conditioners with separate installation in each room.

Another good option is to install a duct system using low-pressure equipment. The only caveat is the more expensive installation, which has some features.

An economical option for a 1-room apartment is the installation of a wall-mounted split system, covering the entire area of the internal space with air flows. But it should be understood that in the room where the equipment will be installed, the temperature regime will always differ from the air temperature in other rooms.

Two-roomed flat

In two-room apartments, it is best to install an air conditioner in the largest room in terms of area. This will ensure that the cooled air is evenly distributed to other rooms in the apartment.

Before choosing a place for installing an air conditioner in a 2-room apartment, carefully study the layout of the rooms. The best place to install will be the room that is directly connected to other rooms in the apartment. And also consider the need to direct the air flow from the air conditioner to the doorways of adjacent rooms.

When to Install an Air Conditioner: Practical Tips

Features and differences in the types of installation

Installation of household air conditioners in Moscow is not a problem for us.

We carry out 3 types of installation:

ECONOMY includes:

  • installation of an outdoor unit under the window in free access;
  • installation of the indoor unit no higher than 3 meters;
  • drilling one wall;
  • laying of interblock communications - up to 3 meters;
  • power supply for the outlet;
  • evacuation of the system;
  • commissioning works.

Standard installation includes:

  • installation of an outdoor unit under the window in free access;
  • installation of the indoor unit no higher than 3 meters;
  • drilling one wall;
  • laying of interblock communications - up to 5 meters;
  • communications are covered with a decorative box up to 1.5 meters;
  • power supply for the outlet;
  • evacuation of the system;
  • commissioning works.

Economy installation and basic installation of the air conditioner is carried out without the involvement of lifting mechanisms and the services of an industrial climber.

Non-standard installation: installation of an air conditioner with additional work at the request of the customer (installation in 2 stages, increasing the length of the track over 5 meters, etc.) or conditions and complexity of the work (climber services, work with facade tiles, etc.).

Installation work includes:

  • Conducting communications in the inter-block space. Craftsmen carry out the refrigerant piping, drain hoses, interconnect cable. They also provide thermal insulation for all system components.
  • After carrying out communications, the wall is restored and the indoor unit is mounted.
  • Installation of an outdoor unit.
  • Connecting the equipment to the mains.

Features of installing an air conditioner in a room

An improperly installed air conditioner can cause frequent colds. To create a comfortable microclimate in the house, choose the right place for installing split equipment.

Do not install an air conditioner:

  • over heating equipment;
  • opposite a sleeping or workplace;
  • on an uneven or fragile wall;
  • in places where there is an obstacle to the free circulation of air.

Now let's consider the options for the location of the split system in different rooms.

Bedroom

If a bedroom is chosen for the installation of climatic equipment, you need to think over a place for installation so that the flow of cooled air does not fall on the resting people, but passes next to the bed, providing a pleasant coolness in the room.

If the room is small and there are practically no options for installation, choose an air conditioner with a multidirectional air flow, which allows you to independently adjust the direction of the outgoing flow.

Living room

In the living room, the air conditioner should be installed according to a similar principle: the cold air flow should not be directed at people, which means that when installing, it is imperative to take into account the location of the furniture.

Optimal places for installing a split system:

  • on the wall to the right or left of the upholstered furniture;
  • above the front door;
  • near the window opening.

In order for the air conditioner to harmoniously fit into the interior of the living room, it is recommended to choose a model that matches the color or design of the overall design concept of the living space.

Kitchen

You can install an air conditioner in the kitchen, but not next to the gas equipment and the stove. For this room, special models should be selected that can cope not only with their main function.

The work of a split system in the kitchen is often complicated by such nuances: high humidity in the room, a high content of fats and soot in the air, as well as different odors during cooking, which often require opening windows to eliminate them. Do not use the air conditioner as a cooker hood, this appliance is not designed for such work.

An air conditioner in an apartment or in a private house is an excellent solution for creating a pleasant microclimate in the living space on hot days. The main thing is to choose the right place for its installation, weighing the pros and cons of each option.

Step 9. Filling with refrigerant

The refrigerant is in the outdoor unit - the air conditioner is still pumped at the factory with freon sufficient to fill about 5 meters of the line.

To fill the refrigeration circuit with freon, you must:

  • open the shut-off valves of the gas and liquid lines
  • install plugs on 2-way and 3-way valves
  • install a plug on the service connection of the 3-way valve
  • check the 3-way valve and service connection for leaks

After filling the circuit, it is recommended to retest the system for leaks.
