How to choose the cheapest wall insulation with good thermal insulation?

TimeTrial pneumatic frame tents are equipment suitable for use in extreme conditions.

Modern materials and technologies used by our company make pneumatic tents not only reliable companions in hiking trips, but also irreplaceable assistants in geological and polar expeditions, in organizing temporary accommodation camps in emergency situations. This is largely possible due to the use of modern insulation.

Features of insulation for tents TimeTrial

The material used is essentially a heat insulator. It consists of foil and porous layers located between layers of protective fabric. The composition provides the isothermal properties of the insulation, which creates the so-called. "Thermos effect". The internal temperature of the tent remains for a long time, the air inside the control panel heats up for a long time in the heat or slowly cools down in the cold.

In addition to such an important quality as a high degree of thermal insulation, the material is lightweight, compact during storage and transportation, does not create conditions for the multiplication of microorganisms - molds, which is especially important when it is used in mobile pneumo-frame hospitals and operating rooms.

Choosing a cheap insulation

Consider the main types of insulation and compare their cost:

  1. Mineral wool - made of fiberglass, used for insulation of walls, pipes, roofs, floors, flat roofs. It has good insulating properties, but it releases formaldehyde when heated and can cause respiratory diseases. Price from 1500 rubles per 1 cubic meter. meter;
  2. Basalt wool - non-flammable, has a high density and safety, especially good for roof insulation. The price is from 1500 to 3500 rubles per 1 cubic meter. meter;
  3. Liquid penoizol - the cheapest insulation, price from 1400 rubles per 1 cubic meter. meter. But the scope of application is limited, since they can close up small areas, for example, cracks and gaps, but not walls and floors;
  4. Styrofoam - lightweight, convenient for independent work, well protects the walls inside and outside from the cold, but in case of a fire, they will emit very acrid smoke. Price from 1500 rubles per 1 cubic meter. meter.

This material will help to calculate the required size of mineral wool for insulation:

Among the various types of thermal insulation on the market, it is most important to give your preference to foam or polystyrene.

Polyfoam, as a heater, is reinforced, after which a plaster based on a special adhesive is applied to it with a thin layer. Further, the foam can be decorated using any building material. The best solutions in all respects are the use of decorative plaster or regular paint.

The advantages and disadvantages of Penoizol insulation are discussed in this article:

Manufacturing of insulation for a tent according to individual parameters

You can buy insulation for a tent from us when ordering a pneumatic tent or regardless of its purchase. We can make it for pneumo-cage or awning tents from other manufacturers. For ease of use, the product is equipped with:

  • sewn-in straps for fastening to the frame with slings;
  • holes for windows, doors, ventilation and technical openings;
  • transparent TPU film at the location of the windows;
  • pockets for wires around the perimeter of the floor.

The insulation will exactly match the dimensions of your tent. You can also complement it with an insulated removable floor, which consists of two layers of wear-resistant tarpaulin with foam sewn into them.

Polyurethane foam

The initial raw material for the manufacture of such foam is a urethane polymer, foaming through chemical reactions and increasing almost 50 times.
In its structure, it is almost like polyurethane foam, with the difference that it has a finer structure.

Foaming of polyurethane foam (PPU) in a special device (production unit) is carried out in just a few minutes, after which it is fed to the desired surface.

The final hardening lasts for a day, then the facade walls can be sheathed with the necessary material.

With the help of polyurethane foam, you can insulate:

  • walls of houses (mostly frame);
  • attics, roofs;
  • house facades;
  • basements, lower floors, etc.

The thermal insulation layer ranges from 4-8 centimeters with a high degree of efficiency.

Among the advantages of polyurethane foam, it is worth noting a high degree of hardening, adhesion to other materials.

PPU insulate surfaces made of various materials: foam concrete, bricks, cinder blocks and gas silicate blocks.

Polyurethane foam is one of the lightest insulation materials in terms of weight, therefore it is also widely used to insulate old houses.

If it is necessary to insulate a small area, it makes sense to purchase foam in a cylinder, which is enough for a layer three to four cm thick for an area of about 1 sq / m. To calculate the cost and amount of foam, you need to start from the area of the treated surface.

Good to know: It is better to carry out external insulation on its own in good cloudy weather at positive temperatures (15-20C), since when hardening, this type of foam should not get wet and be exposed to sunlight.

The temperature ranges here are not given by chance, because very poor foaming will be observed in cold weather.

Inflatable Camping Mattress

In this review, I will talk about an inflatable single mattress that can replace a self-inflating mat and be a good addition to a foam mat. Introduction

Previously, I used a regular thin travel foam mat, bought for 150r in some sports store. As a rule, I spent the night only in warm weather, so the rug was enough for me. Then I bought a thicker rug to sleep in in colder weather, sometimes using two rugs at once. Then they gave me a self-inflating rug for review. At first I really liked this mattress, it was more comfortable to sleep on than on two rugs. Usually for a night I used a self-inflating rug together with a thin foam rug, this combination was enough for me up to + 7C °. At the end of last summer, the rug was perforating, I noticed this in the morning, when the rug lost its softness, but despite this I still took it with me on trips, because even in a deflated state it is softer to sleep on it than on one foam.When the temperature dropped to + 8 C at night, it was cold for me to sleep on a deflated rug and had to go back to using two foams. But carrying 2 foam on a motorcycle is a dubious pleasure, they take up a lot of space. And the self-inflating rug when folded takes up space not much less. Also, in using a self-inflating rug, I did not really like the moment that it takes about five additional minutes to fold it. I didn't really want to take a thick inflatable mattress with me either, and I started looking for an alternative. In the comments to my review of the rug, they wrote that in order to sleep comfortably, the thickness of the rug should be at least 8 cm, I decided to follow this advice and find something thicker, lighter and more compact. Thus, I came across a mattress, which I will talk about in the review.

The weather this year was not very good, constantly rains, constantly cold, so I had to test the mattress far from hot conditions. At that moment, when the mattress was delivered to me, I was going to go to the “Fly away” festival in Izhevsk. Therefore, most of the photos were taken at the festival. I spent the night in the tent for three days, and after Izhevsk I had one more night on this mattress, during which time I managed to appreciate it.

The mattress is supplied in a tiny pouch that can be pulled together with a drawstring. To the touch, the bag and the mattress are made of a similar material, but of different density. The surface of the mattress material and the carrying bag is somewhat reminiscent of the soft touch coating. I apologize in advance for any scuffs on the bag cover and maybe on the mattress. I am writing a review after four nights, I am taking some photos just now.

By the way, there are three colors available:

The dimensions of the folded mattress are about 20cm in length, a little less than 15cm in width and a thickness of about 6.5cm. Such a mattress fits very well into any bag, which cannot be said about foam or a self-inflating rug. The foam here, of course, has undeniable advantages, such as price and durability, but if in the foreground we have requirements for dimensions, then the mattress undoubtedly wins here.

In the photo below, I showed for comparison the dimensions of a mattress, a self-inflating rug and foam, so that the difference in dimensions was presented more clearly.

As for weight, the mattress has a clear advantage over a self-inflating mat and is slightly inferior to foam. The weight of the mattress in the cover is 510 grams. The weight of the self-inflating rug in a bag is 1082 grams, the weight of foam is 381 grams.

In the unfolded state, the length is 226cm, the width is 67cm, in the inflated state it is 192cm and 56cm, respectively. Inflated thickness 5.5cm.

The inflated mattress takes up the full length of my four-person tent, which is very comfortable. The blue self-inflating rug is slightly smaller and with my height of 186cm, if you stretch out, your legs are outside the rug.

The surface of the mattress is not even and has some indentations, at first I thought that through these indentations the mattress would freeze through, but I did not notice anything like that. The benefit of these recesses is that you can rest your heel in them while lying on your back, while the heel slides off the self-inflating mat. Just like in the joke, when a parrot's foot XD slipped off.

The mattress is inflated using a standard pump or using the mouth and lungs, in the first case it takes 15-20 seconds, in the second case about a minute. I spend about the same amount of time blowing a self-inflating rug. Yes, I know it's not good to do this, but I still want to sleep on a denser rug. Connection of the pump to the valve does not require additional adapters, a standard one is used. There is a valve in the opening for putting on the mattress, which does not allow air to escape, thanks to this valve it is very convenient to inflate the mattress with your mouth.

In order to lower the mattress, you need to open the drain hole located under the valve, deflation occurs instantly. In order for all the air to escape, you need to roll the mattress into a tube and close the drain hole. The mattress can then be folded up and packed in a transport bag. Descent and packing takes a maximum of two minutes.

Here are a couple more photos of the mattress.

Output

The mattress was used in conjunction with 12mm thick foam and 8mm thin foam. One day, the temperature dropped to +10 at night, if I am not mistaken, it was cold in the sleeping bag without clothes, but my back was not frozen. On other days, the temperature at night was about 12-13C °. Compared to a self-inflating mat, the mattress is much more comfortable. The only thing that worries me about this kind of products is that they can be punctured. I pierced the self-inflating rug, despite the fact that its fabric is slightly thicker than that of the mattress. You need to be more careful when choosing a place for setting up a tent, and you need to handle the mattress much more carefully than with foam. And the second disadvantage that can be noted is the price. The price is comparable to the price of a self-inflating mat, it is about 4.5 times more expensive than foam. Even if I pierce this mattress, I will definitely buy something similar, perhaps a little thicker. It turned out to be very convenient in terms of transportation.
