Independent work on cleaning the ventilation duct

If the sleeve that removes exhaust air from the apartment to the central shaft is clogged, you need to know how to clean the ventilation in the apartment yourself. Work order:

  • Free up space under the ventilation grill from furniture, flowerpots, and other interior items that interfere with cleaning.
  • Cover the floor covering with a protective film, newspapers from possible ingress of dust, dirt, debris from the channel.
  • The wall under the grate is covered with oilcloth, old wallpaper attached to it with masking tape.
  • The work is carried out on a serviceable and stable step-ladder pushed up to the wall.
  • The grille masking the ventilation hole is removed.
  • If there is an exhaust fan in the niche instead of the grill, it must also be dismantled, having previously unscrewed the screws that fix the case.
  • The grill, fan blades are well washed with a cleaning composition that breaks down fat deposits. Wipe dry.
  • In case of unsatisfactory condition, great physical wear, the grille is replaced with a new one.
  • Work is carried out in mittens or gloves.
  • For mechanical cleaning, a thick (diameter 10-12 mm) rope is used. A ruff or a "doll" wound from a rag is attached to the end. With rotational and translational movements, moving up the channel as far as possible, clean it from dirt, fat, cobwebs.
  • To avoid injury to hands and possibly trash inside (nails, remains of birds and rodents, glass), all the contents at the bottom of the canal are removed with a construction trowel. You need to try to stick your hand as deeply as possible.
  • Dirt adhering to the walls from the outside of the hole is also removed with a rubber, plastic or wooden spatula.
  • Small debris and dust that cannot be cleaned by hand are removed from the cavity with a vacuum cleaner.
  • The grate is put into place.
  • Traction control check with the window open.
  • If it remains unchanged, you need to contact the specialists in the management company for a more detailed cleaning.

Not only horizontal bends are brought into proper form, but also vertical ventilation structures. But the owner of the apartment should not do this. Only specialists should clean the ventilation outlets in an apartment building.

Attention! It is prohibited to solve independently the problem of clogging the ventilation shaft in an apartment building by burning out cobwebs and debris or using chemical compounds.

Self-cleaning of the ventilation duct

Despite the existing rules, many management companies do not appear in the apartments of residents for years to check the performance of the ventilation system. Therefore, residents of high-rise buildings are forced to periodically diagnose and clean their exhaust openings on their own.

Cleaning the ventilation duct
For lightly soiled exhaust ports, you can achieve results with a conventional brush.

The ventilation hatch can be cleaned with insignificant contamination, but if the dirt has accumulated in it for years, then it is better to call specialists all the same.

Self-cleaning is carried out as follows:

  1. Remove ventilation grilles, they are well cleaned of dirt and dust and washed under running water.
  2. Clean the walls of the ventilation duct, to which it turns out to get. For work, use a metal brush or wire.
  3. Clean the hole from debris with a vacuum cleaner.

Actually, this is where all the homework on cleaning the ventilation holes ends. If there is a reverse draft in the duct and the smells of neighbors reach the apartment, you can replace the old ventilation grill with a model with a non-return valve.

If they did not lead to the desired result, and the draft in the channel remained at the same level, then there is a blockage in the common shaft. This is the work of special services that can be called through the UK.

Professional ventilation cleaning
Licensed companies use professional equipment and special cleaning technologies, which are selected after a thorough examination of the canal and taking into account its current condition

To the beginning

Preventive maintenance steps

Contaminated air ducts can damage the entire ventilation system. The first signal about the need for examination is a decrease in ventilation performance.

Stage 1. Inspection of air ducts and determination of the nature of pollution.

A device with a remote control and a camera for examining air ducts of ventilation systems If air exchange has deteriorated, the first thing to do is to check the visible elements of the ventilation network and try to inspect the internal section of the air ducts as far as their geometry allows. Often, even a cursory examination is enough to conclude that it is necessary to clean the ventilation ducts.

If an independent inspection has not yielded results, it's time to turn to specialized companies, which, having at their disposal all the necessary equipment (up to remote manipulators with video cameras), will carry out a full diagnosis and issue their opinion on the condition of the air ducts and the need to clean them.

Stage 2. Cleaning the air ducts.

Through the service opening in the air duct, the employee cleans the ventilation ducts The method for cleaning the ventilation ducts is determined based on the nature of the contamination and the type of ventilation duct (flexible, semi-rigid or rigid air ducts). In this case, the cleaning of the air ducts should be carried out without dismantling them. Distinguish between chemical and mechanical cleaning methods.

The chemical method is usually used to clean the section of air ducts from accumulated fatty deposits, which are typical for ventilation systems in kitchens, restaurants, public catering, etc. A chemical reagent in the form of an aerosol is sprayed into the section of ventilation ducts and, reacting with a fatty coating, changes its physical and mechanical properties. The fatty deposit loses its adhesion properties, lags behind the walls of the air duct and is removed along with the passing air. The chemical method is effective with an insignificant thickness of fatty deposits, moreover, it requires complete sealing of the air duct.

Mechanical cleaning of air ducts is carried out using hydropneumatic or hydromechanical devices and vacuum pumps. A vacuum pump is connected to the outlet of the ventilation network, and special brushes or a self-propelled manipulator are placed at the beginning of the air duct. In the course of the machine, the walls of the air ducts are mechanically cleaned with rotating brushes, and the separated plaque is picked up by the air and carried into a special filter of the vacuum pump. Mechanical cleaning of ventilation ducts is rather complicated and laborious, but it gives the best effect even with strong pollution.

There is also a technology for cleaning air ducts using granules, the so-called "dry ice" ("dry ice blasting"). The granules, passing through the section of the air duct, bombard the fatty plaque. In places of contact of "dry ice" with fat, a microexplosion is formed, from which the plaque is destroyed and picked up by the passing air stream. To increase the efficiency of the process, an additional pressure of air movement is created using an auxiliary pressure or vacuum fan. As with the chemical method of cleaning air ducts, you must make sure that they are completely tight.

Stage 3. Disinfection of air ducts.

After cleaning the ventilation system, disinfection is required. Chemical or mechanical cleaning of air ducts removes only plaque and dirt, but the ventilation system still needs to be cleaned of dust mites, pathogenic bacteria and other microorganisms. Dirty air ducts are an excellent habitat and reproduction of microorganisms - high humidity at a temperature of + 20 ... + 45 ° C and a complete absence of ultraviolet radiation. For disinfection, liquids, aerosols or powders based on hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and other reagents are used. When choosing an antiseptic, it is necessary to take into account the purpose of the room. Some reagents are effective for industrial ventilation, but are prohibited for use in kindergartens or schools, others cannot be used in kitchens, etc.

It is necessary to disinfect not only the air ducts themselves, but also all filters, internal ventilation units and other elements of the air exchange system.

Usually, companies specializing in the maintenance of ventilation systems offer to carry out a full scope of work: diagnostics, cleaning and disinfection. The experience and technical capabilities of our specialists allow you to carry out the work quickly and efficiently, and your ventilation system will work like new again.

Cleaning ventilation is a must

Indeed, with an unprofessional look, external changes in the operation of ventilation and air conditioning systems may not even be noticed: the fan continues to work, air, albeit in smaller volumes, is supplied. Over time, changes in air flow rates seem imperceptible and the problem is not so obvious. And the possible infectious danger is not taken into account at all, since it is not noticeable to the eyes. In addition to reducing the set parameters of ventilation, there is a threat of ignition of deposits from grease and dust. In addition, pathogenic bacteria and mold multiply and spread in the air environment of the premises on heat exchangers and in the drainage system of air conditioning.

How to check the ventilation status

disinfection of air ducts

According to GOST, the ventilation system must ensure the following indoor air quality: the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) must be no more than 1000 cm3 per 1 m3, and air flows must move at a speed of no more than 0.2 m / s. Moreover, ventilation is also responsible for the level of humidity in the room, since an environment that is too humid is an ideal breeding ground for various fungi and mold. In accordance with the norms, the air humidity should vary between 30-60%. But since it is impossible to control these indicators without special equipment, it remains to check the state of ventilation with the help of improvised means.

Expert advice:

To quickly and effectively check how the ventilation is working, hold a lighted match or piece of paper near the duct. If the draft is normal, the flame will be pulled towards the hood, and the leaf will be attracted to the grate. Otherwise, a professional cleaning of the system should be arranged without delay.

Types of contamination and ventilation cleaning methods

There are different types of ventilation pollution. Dirt and dust accumulate in the supply ventilation system, fat accumulates in the exhaust system, a mixture of soot and fat accumulates in the chimney of stoves, barbecues, and soot accumulates in chimneys. Accordingly, different methods of ventilation cleaning are used. As a rule, these are two methods: either dry cleaning or cleaning with reagents (using active foam), or a combination of these methods.

Exhaust technological (fat) ventilation diagram.

The fat exhaust ventilation system needs cleaning the most. Cooker and grill hoods draw in vapors and odors from the cooking area. Then there is a primary purification of air from fat particles, for this there are grease cassettes.

However, despite the filters, over time a layer of grease settles on the walls of the umbrella, air ducts, fan blades. If the frequency of cleaning is insufficient, then the fat thickens, hardens, and finally turns into a compressed state. Cleaning the compressed fat is very difficult, sometimes it is necessary to completely replace the elements of the ventilation system.

Signs of contamination

Cleaning ventilation

Various allergens, dust and pathogens are removed from the room through the ventilation duct. Gradually, they accumulate on the walls of the ventilation ducts and return to the room. In addition, it should be remembered that a contaminated ventilation system is a potential source of fire.

In order not to experience health problems, ventilation cleaning in apartment buildings should be carried out regularly. If you do not do it, then various pollutants will be able to penetrate the room, reducing efficiency and impairing people's well-being. Among the main signs of contamination are:

  • dust accumulates around the grate;
  • a high temperature is established in the room, although this has not been observed before;
  • dust reappears soon after the apartment is cleaned.

We recommend that you read: Pigsty ventilation

To check the performance of the ventilation system, you can use smoke, a visual method or an open flame. If the draft turned out to be weak during the test, then it is necessary to clean the air duct in the apartment.

Do not wait for the channels to be heavily contaminated. To always have a good atmosphere in the room, it is advisable to clean the ventilation at regular intervals.

Equipment for cleaning air ducts and ventilation units

To clean the air ducts, specialized equipment is used, which allows you to get rid of pollution with high quality. In most situations, a ventilation cleaning method is used that does not require dismantling. To clean the ventilation from greasy and oily contaminants, brushes on the shafts are used, with an automated supply of reagents in the form of foam, to clean the ventilation from dust and dirt, the method of dry cleaning with brushes on the shafts is used, with vacuum dust removal. Air handling units are manually cleaned using steam cleaners, industrial vacuum cleaners and high pressure washers. Disinfection is carried out by spraying disinfectant using the cold fog method. The disinfectant used is certified for the treatment of ventilation and air conditioners.

Algorithm for maintenance and cleaning of ventilation systems

Work begins with checking the performance of the ventilation system, external and internal inspection of the air ducts.

  1. Checking the integrity of the surfaces of the air ducts, the stability of the fastening of all elements of the system. The condition is visually inspected, special attention is paid to the places of connections and fastenings.
  2. Checking the condition of electrical equipment. If necessary, an audit of electric motors, electromechanical drives for air flow control is carried out. If there are filters, then, depending on their technical characteristics, periodic maintenance or complete replacement is performed.
  3. Removing dust and dirt from external surfaces, cleaning decorative ventilation grilles.

The maintenance of the units is carried out depending on the features of the equipment and its purpose. Only trained specialists with permits are allowed to work.

Checking the standing of industrial air ducts

The long length and size of the air ducts require the presence of special equipment and fixtures for testing. Inspection of internal surfaces is done with modern devices:

  • Remote manipulators with mini video cameras. Cameras are fixed to flexible cables up to 40 m long; to improve the picture, a backlight is installed on the camera. Inspection is carried out through the hatches for cleaning the air ducts, if necessary, additional holes are cut in remote areas. The technological holes made are closed after inspection. See picture # 1
  • Robots. Used to diagnose the condition of large-diameter pipelines. Robots with video cameras, controlled by a remote control. See picture # 2

Based on the data obtained, a map of the technical condition of the internal planes of pipelines is drawn up, the amount and nature of contamination is determined. Inspection data is used to determine the best way to clean ventilation systems.

For ventilation of private houses, it is not required to check their condition with special equipment. Functionality check is carried out by visual method, smoke or open flame. If the draft is insufficient or completely absent, then the system should be cleaned. In some cases, it will be necessary to dismantle pipes, it is difficult and time-consuming. An economical and simple way is to clean the ventilation systems from contamination using an additional powerful fan.It is connected in parallel to the existing one or instead of it, the unit is switched on at maximum power. The strong air flow is able to remove dust from the inner surfaces of the air ducts. This method requires special training of performers, the price of services depends on the complexity and volume of work.

There are several ways to clean the air duct, the specific choice depends on the nature and amount of contamination, the size of the pipes and the place of their installation. After receiving the application, the responsible representative of the specialized company arrives at the place of work to assess their volume and draw up an order fulfillment plan. At the same time, issues with the timing of the start and end of service are being resolved. The customer has the right, if necessary, to demand the repair of ventilation ducts, services must be additionally paid. Mechanical cleaning The most common method, effectively removes dust, cobwebs and small particles. Universal application, it can be used both on large general house or general production systems, and in commercial premises or office centers. The only possible method for cleaning pipelines in sports and concert halls. For industrial air ducts of large cross-section, mechanical ventilation cleaning equipment is used. The unit consists of:

  • Movable brush. It can have a different diameter, the dimensions are selected taking into account the parameters of the pipes. The drive can be carried out by pneumatic or electric motors.
  • Powerful fan. It is connected to the air duct in the direction of the brush movement. When cleaning the ventilation ducts, a lot of dust is generated, the fans remove it.
  • A set of filters. It consists of filters for coarse and fine cleaning, retains dust in special accumulators, prevents it from entering the room.

Ventilation cleaning equipment fig. Number 3

There are various equipment for cleaning ventilation in terms of power, length of the brush control cable, technical parameters of fans and filters. Rotating brushes clean both round, square and rectangular air ducts efficiently. Brushes have different hardness; metal brushes can be used for industrial ventilation. The shaft rotation speed ranges from 300 to 600 rpm.

Cleaning ventilation from dirt and dust

Cleaning ventilation from dust

Ecolife Engineering Systems has been cleaning ventilation systems from dust and dirt for many years. We have all the necessary tools and experienced professionals. The competence of IS Ecolife is confirmed by many positive reviews from our clients.

Cleaning of the ventilation system is carried out in segments of 5-30 m. First, inspection windows are made, through which dust is lifted from the surface of the air ducts using a brush machine. This dust is immediately evacuated by a vacuum machine and settles in the filter unit.

This prevents dust from entering the environment during cleaning. Cleaning is carried out without disassembling the air ducts and as soon as possible.

To the beginning

How often is cleaning required?

Most often, it happens that ventilation systems are not cleaned for years or even decades, which is why the air duct does not work at all in many buildings. This is especially true for residential buildings. Therefore, inspection and cleaning falls on the shoulders of the tenants themselves or management companies, who set the cleaning frequency (once a year or six months). For this, professional companies are hired.

But for industrial enterprises, where the production process is associated with rapid contamination of ventilation ducts, strict deadlines have been set for checking and cleaning ventilation systems. An example of such enterprises is food industry establishments. The frequency of cleaning ventilation systems and inspection are carried out several times a year.

Ventilation disinfection

Ventilation disinfection

The air, as a rule, contains dust particles of organic and inorganic nature, on which various microorganisms travel through the air. Some of them (including those hazardous to health) find suitable conditions for their existence in the ventilation system. While multiplying, they enter the air of the room, causing various diseases, such as "Legionnaires' Disease".

Routine ventilation cleaning does not eliminate such microorganisms; disinfection must be carried out. According to the Decree No. 4 of April 27, 2004 of the Chief Sanitary Doctor, once every six months, all organizations, regardless of their form of ownership, are obliged to conduct a sanitary-epidemiological examination of ventilation systems using laboratory methods. In case of detection of pathogenic microflora, disinfection is carried out.

Disinfection of ventilation and air conditioning is carried out after preliminary cleaning of ventilation. A working solution of a disinfectant is prepared and sprayed onto the surface. Disinfectants approved for use in the Russian Federation for disinfection of ventilation and air conditioning systems are used. After irrigation, the product does not need to be washed off with water, as it decomposes into carbon dioxide and water within a short period of time. Our organization has experience in performing complex tasks in the field of disinfection of ventilation systems.

To the beginning

When cleaning is necessary

A number of specific signs indicate that it is time to clean the ventilation. The easiest way to understand this is if dust and debris begins to accumulate around the vents.

The main reasons for cleaning:

  • in the warm season, the apartment heats up very quickly;
  • dust after the next cleaning appears almost immediately;
  • also the need for cleaning is indicated by the absence of drafts when ventilating the room.

There is an easy way to check the condition of the ventilation ducts. To do this, you need to bring a lighted match to the hole. If the flame remains even and does not vibrate towards the ventilation grill, this means that the system is clogged and must be cleaned of accumulated debris and dust as soon as possible.

If the fire deviates or goes out, then the system is in good condition and no additional measures need to be taken. However, in the event that the cleaning was last carried out more than six months ago, you still need to repeat this procedure for preventive purposes.

Similar manipulations can be performed with thin paper or newspaper. This method is even safer than the matchstick option.

Cleaning chimneys from soot

Cleaning chimneys from soot

Chimney cleaning is relevant both at public catering facilities (exhaust umbrellas from kitchen equipment) and in the field of individual housing construction (summer cottages, cottages, etc.) and implies a set of measures, among which: - Preliminary examination, including teleinspection, if necessary - Cleaning the hoods of barbecues, stoves - Cleaning the chimney itself

Experts of the Ecolife Group of Companies will always come to your aid in cleaning chimneys from soot, grease and other contaminants (cleaning chimneys of stoves, fireplaces, cleaning chimneys of barbecues and other chimneys). As a rule, exhaust hoods and hydraulic filters (if installed) are cleaned together with chimneys. Chimneys are cleaned with special brushes with flexible or rigid handles and an electric drive. Depending on the material of the chimney walls and the degree of its contamination, various types of brushes are used (plastic, abrasive, metal). In addition, dry cleaning (a brush cleans the inner walls of the chimney) and cleaning with reagents (a liquid is previously introduced into the chimney, contributing to faster and more efficient cleaning) can be performed. This type of work is regulated by Article 16 of the Federal Law "On Fire Safety" and the Fire Safety Regulations in the Russian Federation (approved by Decree No. 390 of the Government of the Russian Federation of April 25, 2012).

To the beginning

Cleaning methods and technologies

The use of special equipment for cleaning ventilation will quickly remove all types of contamination. Treatment systems are designed to solve various problems. Some are better at handling dust, while others are designed to remove grease. It is recommended to use one or the other cleaning method depending on the type of dirt.

Mechanical and chemical methods

Vacuum cleaner or brushing machine

To perform the work, a vacuum cleaner or a brush machine is used. In addition, there is more modern equipment for cleaning ventilation - robots equipped with a video camera. The mechanical method can quickly remove dust from the channels, but it is not suitable for removing fat deposits. Among the main advantages of this method are:

  • high safety for people living or working in the building;
  • effective removal of contaminants without causing mechanical damage to ventilation equipment.

Unfortunately, when using the mechanical method, it is not always possible to properly clean the ventilation. We are talking about the kitchen, where you often have to use chemicals. They are also an effective way of cleaning, but to use them, you need to perform certain preparatory measures.

Other options

The combined (wet) method is popular. It involves the use of both mechanical and chemical methods. The main advantage of the wet cleaning method is its high efficiency. However, it also has some disadvantages:

  • relatively high cost;
  • time consuming.

Cryogenic blasting

An even more expensive way to clean ventilation systems is cryogenic blasting using baking soda and dry ice. With the help of compressed air, the working substance is delivered at a high speed into the ventilation duct and falls on its walls. As a result, a microexplosion is observed, rapidly destroying the plaque layer.

Cryogenic blasting is one of the most effective methods for cleaning ventilation, but first it is necessary to ensure high tightness of the entire system. In addition, cleaning will take a long time. Most often, a mechanical or combined method is used. The rest of the methods are advisable to apply only in the case of severe contamination of the ventilation system.

In air conditioning systems, heat exchangers of outdoor units become clogged with dirt, dust, fluff, heat exchangers in rooms and drainage trays become breeding grounds for pathogenic bacteria and mold.

Mechanical contamination of the heat exchanger reduces the cooling capacity of the air conditioner, increases the load on the compressor and, as a result, reduces the service life of your air conditioner. The air conditioner should be cleaned twice a year and is included in the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

Microbial contamination in some cases leads to acute pneumonia, in others it causes chronic respiratory diseases, decreased immunity, and allergies.

Disinfection of ventilation and air conditioning should be carried out twice a year (usually together with maintenance of ventilation) and controlled by the authorities of ROSPOTREBNADZOR.

Selection rules

In accordance with the legislation, ventilation systems must be cleaned at least once a year. This will allow achieving a normal level of fire safety in food processing plants, as well as in buildings where flammable materials and dirt accumulate. In hotels, restaurants and healthcare facilities, ventilation can be cleaned once every five years.

Pressovac equipment

The market offers equipment for cleaning ventilation systems from domestic and foreign manufacturers. The best installations are offered by the Finnish companies AirPower and Pressovac, as well as the American company Goodway. The only drawback of the equipment manufactured by these manufacturers is the high cost.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with: Cellar ventilation

Installations manufactured by domestic companies have a more affordable price. Moreover, their quality is at a high level. The products of the companies Equipment for Professionals and Probat Rus are in demand on the market. During the research, it was found that approximately 40% of the pollution is in the room due to the low efficiency of the ventilation systems. This fact can be explained by the belated replacement of filters, as well as a large amount of deposits on the walls of the air ducts. To maintain a comfortable indoor climate, you should periodically clean the ventilation systems.

While after the cleaning activities, when the system returns to the design mode, the positive changes are more than evident and often cause surprise on the part of the Customer. Indeed, how much more air began to flow into the room, how much more efficient the channel air conditioner began to work, and also how much quieter the fan began to operate, it is impossible not to notice.

Reasons for unsatisfactory operation of the air exchange system

Cleaning the ventilation in an apartment building does not always change the situation. Therefore, the first step is to identify the source of the problem. There are a number of main reasons:

  1. Plastic double-glazed windows or new sealed doors. Ventilation of an apartment building occurs due to the difference in temperature and pressure inside and outside the room. Old wooden windows and doors let in a lot of fresh air. Due to this, the room is ventilated. New double-glazed windows and doors hermetically seal the room, disrupting the natural course of air exchange. The situation can be corrected by a micro-ventilation system installed on plastic windows.
  2. Clogged ventilation ducts. In an apartment building, the ventilation system consists of the main and adjacent branches. The main channel is clogged due to the partial collapse of the masonry or the ingress of large debris. Adjoining branches leading into the apartment reduce the air throughput due to accumulated dirt and soot on the walls, an old grate or a piece of plaster that has fallen off.
  3. Connecting a powerful hood.If a neighbor brought a chiseled forced exhaust into the main ventilation duct, then in other apartments the balance is disturbed, the air movement almost completely stops.
  4. Deterioration in the movement of air masses in summer. Due to the small temperature difference between the living area and the street. Installation of an air conditioner or an exhaust fan will help.
  5. Design or construction errors. There are times when neither cleaning nor forced ventilation will help. The reason is a violation of the structure of the ventilation duct.

There are several ways to independently determine the performance of the ventilation system:

  • You need to open a window or door. Then bring a candle or lighter to the ventilation grill. The working system will create a stream of air that sucks the flame into the duct. Gas service specialists do not recommend this method. If gas leaks from one apartment, it can accumulate throughout the ventilation riser. Fire will provoke fire and explosion.
  • The same way with the window open. Instead of fire, a sheet of paper.

Remember that in the summer it is possible that air circulation can stop due to the small temperature difference inside and outside the room. In other cases, this indicates a clogged channel. You should start cleaning it.

Ventilation cleaning as a profitable business

How to start a profitable ventilation cleaning and disinfection business? Do you know that

contaminated ventilation can not only lead to frequent illnesses of employees in the office, but also literally put a business out? A dirty duct increases energy costs and can even cause a fire in a building. Meanwhile, now the market for ventilation cleaning services is far from saturation. And if you count how many buildings in your city in which ventilation cleaning has never been carried out, you can estimate how profitable this business will be. The head of the Pressovac group Vekont-M LLC (the exclusive distributor of the Finnish manufacturer Pressovac Oy in Russia and CIS).

There are a lot of rumors about ventilation. For example, some say that this is a breeding ground for infection that "mows down" half of the office. Others say that ventilation is one of the causes of fires and so on. It's true? Why?

- Comfort directly depends on the quality of indoor air (temperature, relative humidity, air distribution and purity). Therefore, in many residential premises, offices and enterprises, a ventilation system is installed. Despite regularly replacing filters, over time, dust and debris in the air settles on the surface of the duct, creating an environment for bacteria to grow and making it difficult to work ventilation system... Dirt, mites, bacteria, mold and other microorganisms not only provoke frequent illnesses of people in the room, but also lead to interruptions in the supply of electricity, corrosion of metal parts and repair of ventilation. Moreover, if the air movement occurs due to natural draft, then the result will be a gradual reduction in the inflow and exhaust, up to a complete blockage of the ventilation duct.

For the time being, the situation is saved only by the fact that some air ducts have a rather large cross section. And in systems equipped with a fan, things are worse. There, clogging occurs much faster. Dust settles on various components and assemblies, humidifiers, valves and grates. As a result of a sharp increase in the resistance of the system, the fan does not deliver the design capacity. And when dust builds up on the working parts, it starts to work with overload, heats up and eventually fails. In my practice, there have been cases when the customer managed to change the equipment several times, blaming the quality of the equipment, electrics and improper operation. Until, finally, the true reason was not found out. With the wrong design productivity of ventilation equipment, the enterprise loses only 10-15 percent per year on electricity. In addition to slowing down the air flow, materials trapped in the duct can ignite. That is, there is not only a problem with efficiency, but also the risk of fire. Therefore, the main task of cleaning ventilation is to remove visible contaminants - dust, debris and moisture from the supply and exhaust ventilation systems so that the air passing through them does not come into contact with contaminated surfaces. - Why hasn't a law on ventilation cleaning been created in Russia? Is there such a law somewhere in the world? If so, how did he affect the situation? - The problem of the absence of a law on cleaning in Russia is actively discussed in the ventilation and cleaning industry. There is no document that would oblige the owners of the air ducts to clean the ventilation. However, with the exception of Moscow, where the corresponding Resolution No. 4 of August 27, 2004 and Order No. 107 of August 12, 2004 were adopted. Of course, you can find many reasons why such a law does not exist in most regions of Russia (and in many countries of the world, by the way), even if its existence would benefit mankind. However, there are three main problems hindering the adoption of the law.

At first, it is difficult to agree on what is clean and what is dirty and how to measure cleanliness or contamination.

Secondly, sources of pollution negatively affect human health. At the same time, the symptoms are well disguised as a painful atmosphere in the building - malaise, sneezing, headache, nausea. And none of them can be directly related exclusively to ventilation systems.

Thirdly, the problem is politicized and partly depends on the second. Government agencies are the first sector where ventilation cleaning may become mandatory. This means that schools, hospitals, kindergartens, nursing homes will have to provide for an additional cost item for cleaning ventilation.

If we talk about ventilation cleaning as a business, how much is it in demand? Is the competition high here??

- This is a highly profitable business in a low-competitive market. The market will come to Russia in 3-5 years, not earlier, and therefore this niche is still free. Competition, if it can be applied to the current situation, has some kind of distant status only in Moscow. However, each contractor with professional equipment usually has its own facilities, which have already been cleaned up. That is, the level of trust in recurring orders is quite high and the likelihood that the client will go to another executor is practically zero. It is not difficult to calculate the market capacity. For example, in Moscow and the Moscow region there are more than 150,000 buildings, all of which are known to have ventilation. This is the potential volume. Since the days of the USSR, no one has ever cleaned them, so business has a lot to turn around. Now the Russian regulatory authorities are issuing more prescriptions and instructions for cleaning ventilation. Thus, the Norm has already been issued in Tatarstan (Resolution No. 5 of 11.08.06), the relevant documents are being prepared in Yakutsk and Kazakhstan.

Let's say I want to start a ventilation cleaning business. What do I need to do for this?

- First, it is necessary, desire. Second, you need capital to buy equipment and advertising - about 500-600 thousand rubles. The cost of services in Central Russia is on average 250-350 rubles per meter. According to the results of the study of the object, the price can be reduced to 85-150 rubles or rise to 450-850 rubles. There are a number of complexity factors that need to be applied (the difficulty of access, the height of the canals from the zero mark, whether it is necessary to carry out additional work, the degree of pollution, and so on). It is based on the main rule: 80% of all costs are spent on preparing for work and connecting equipment to the systems and only 20% - for the cleaning itself. Convincing the client to clean the ventilation is not so difficult. It is enough to come to him with the Pressovac video inspection system and show the condition of the air ducts. This works better than regular verbal persuasion. Rebuilding the mentality of leaders brought up in the best traditions of the USSR is not an easy task, but it is necessary. One way or another, there is motivation and a serious argument to go to the director and ask for money for financing. air duct cleaning.

How to choose the right equipment? What you should pay attention to?

- First, you need to determine what goals and objectives the potential "chimney sweep" pursues. Perhaps this is a specific enterprise / segment or the entire possible sector of the city / region, that is, the housing and communal services system, administrative and office buildings, shopping and business centers, hypermarkets, factories, factories. The correct selection of the required set of equipment depends on this. Equipment package can be completed from 300,000 to 1,800,000 rubles. Any set is formed from three main components (brush equipment, vacuum unit and filter unit). They differ in power and performance, respectively, and in price. Thus, we take into account both our tasks and our budget. The selection of brushes is also required: for round and rectangular channels, both in size range and in degree of rigidity. Having decided on the main components, you can choose tools, components and accessories. What is it for? Obviously, having received a potential order, a "chimney sweep" may face a whole set of problems that one way or another will have to be solved. It is important for the customer to understand that you are the contractor who solves all his problems. The main key point: a professional "chimney sweep" must have professional tool to complete any task.

What's the hardest part of this business?

- The main thing is to overcome your fear of new beginnings. After all, every future businessman, starting his own business, one way or another, took risks.Any business is a risk of loss. The most difficult and, perhaps, the most important thing is diligence and work, as in any other business. Moreover, the work is honest. This is the key to success and customer respect, as well as trust in recurring orders. There is only one rule - the “chimney sweep” must do his job efficiently and so cleanly that he would say “like in a pharmacy”.

How quickly the costs invested in starting a business will pay off, and in general - is it a profitable business - cleaning ventilation?

- In this case, the payback of the project is rather a question that is not entirely correct. I think aggressive marketing is indispensable in this matter. For example, with an average cleaning price of 250 rubles per meter, the cost of work at an enterprise with air ducts up to 2,000 running meters in length will be approximately 500 thousand rubles. The average passage (cleaning) per work shift is 100-150 meters. This means that work on this object will be completed in 2 weeks. Paying 2-3 workers for these two weeks, including overheads and bonuses, won't be a big deal.

Thus, you will receive a return on investment of 300-500%, which will allow you to quickly recoup your investment. Of course, these are ideal conditions if you have such contracts. But, having bought the equipment, you should not hope that customers will immediately run to you "in line". It is necessary to convey by any means information to all potential customers that your company and working conditions meet all the stated requirements, of course, with a free video demonstration of ventilation systems at these facilities. Then the receipt of the order is practically in your pocket with a probability of 60-70%.

Please give a couple of tips for newbies who would like to start a ventilation cleaning business?

- Many, which is quite understandable, imagine the low cost of an "admission ticket" to this business. Some even sometimes joke: "Is it possible, they say, to start this business without any investments at all?" In this case, we give adequate answers: “It's over, you can! You can open the "Husband for an hour" control, grow oyster mushrooms, take work at home, repair plumbing, do manicure and hairstyles at home, and much more. " This is the perfect business without the investment.
